Rakta Mokshana Ayurveda Panchakarma Treatment

Unique and highly effective treatment in Ayurveda is known as Raktamokshan where vitiated and aggravated doshas are taken out of the body by means of taking out blood from the body (bloodletting). Though the inclusion of Raktamokshana in mainstream panchakarma is not uniform and acharya Sushruta consider it as the mainstream Panchakarma done mainly in case of the disorder either related to blood, skin or any disorder where pitta goes out of proportion.

This Panchakarma Treatment is taking a lot of limelight in recent years because of its effectiveness as well as the research work going on in this field. commonly used method for bloodletting is shring(sucking) alabu (cupping) Jalauka (leech) and Prachan (cutting), siravyadha (vein puncturing) choice of method to perform rakta mokshana is totally depended on the disease doshas involved and Ayurveda doctor.

Procedure :-

Here we will mainly discuss the jaluka (leech therapy)

Patient is made comfortable. the affected area is exposed, prepared leach is exposed to that area, if it sticks to the place it’s fine otherwise small drop of milk or blood has to put to make leach suck the affected area. leech has to cover with a wet cloth, need to observe the leach after taking out the blood adequately it will fall off naturally.

Turmeric is to be applied on the area which may ooze blood a little bit after the therapy. The mixture of honey and Ghrita will be applied and a small bandage will be applied.
